Managing money if you’re unemployed
If you’ve recently lost your job, or are unemployed, there are services to help with managing your money and bills.
Manage bills and rent
You can get in touch with the service providers for your utilities, internet and phone bill. They may be able to give payment extensions or have other options.
If you get a payment from Centrelink, you can use Centrepay to pay your bills. Find out about Centrepay on the Services Australia website.
Manage money and debt
Moneysmart has information including how to reduce your debt and plan for the future. They also give specific advice for problems paying bills and fines.
Moneysmart’s Budget Planner can help you see where your money is going and manage conflicting demands.
There are also tools and resources available online on the National Debt Helpline website.
