Changes to Carer Payment or Carer Allowance

When a child in your care is turning 16, you can apply to transfer your Carer Payment or Carer Allowance from a child to an adult. Services Australia will write to you when you need to do this.

Payments your child may get

When your child is 16 or older they may get their own payment. Find out more about support if you have illness, injury or disability. 

When your child becomes independent

Becoming their guardian, power of attorney or representative

As your child gets older you may need to become their guardian or power of attorney. You can also be their representative and use myGov to manage government services for them.
